This year once again Wilbur S. Pence Middle School will be competing in the Destination Imagination program. If you are not familiar with this wonderful program, let me give you a bit of background information. DI allows students to build creative problem solving and teamwork skills. There are two components to the competition. Instant Challenges allow students to practice thinking on their feet and the skill of making quick creative decisions. The Team Challenges are carefully created brainteasers that inspire the teams to come up with a solution after months of preparation. Students compete at the regional level first and then the top teams may compete at the state level. Challenges are written to develop acting, writing, musical, technical and artistic skills. Teams meet after school to prepare their chosen challenge for the regional tournament.
